FaceRig - Animaze - Avatars for video

Just ran across this today on VR Scout, Holotech is out of Romania and has some people in San Francisco. Trying to find whether the development platform runs on Mac OS or only Windows.

The Pro versions allow for creating original models, so I'm going to see what I can do with this platform.

This video mentions 3 tools - I'm interested in the 2nd one, FaceRig, which is now succeeded by their latest product, Animaze:

Questions about Asian hate crimes

I'm curious, there's an article saying there have been 3,800 hate crimes during this last year of COVID, many against women and seniors - but I'd like to know a few things.

1. Who committed the crimes? Statistically, probably blacks and hispanics, and probably because the victims make easy targets.

2. What's the evidence that the attacks were hate crimes?

3. What is the nature of the attacks? Do they include verbal assaults? I'm aware there are physical attacks, but are these just the usual 'knock out game' we've seen for years, where young black guys go around decking old whites and jews and homosexuals, and other funny looking people. Balding middle-aged guys in compression socks and fanny packs getting socked in the jaw as they step out of their Corollas and tumble onto the curb, their pocket full of viagra scattering across the sidewalk. This video cites demographic statistics of crimes against Asians.

I think the Nation of Islam might have some influence, but that might just be a convenient excuse for what is an otherwise uncivilized culture to begin with. This small segment of society who commits 70% of violent crime is the group with the most animosity towards those who are different from them, yet ironically, this is the group who is gaining special immunity against the law under the banner 'Black Lives Matter' - to the point that their would be victims may eventually have no protection as government officials and celebrities call for defunding the police and eliminating prisons.

Of course, I'm not suggesting all blacks and hispanics fall into this category. But statistically, the category is primarily comprised of blacks and hispanics - again - 70% of the violence from 13% of the total population. It's the dirty little secret no one is allowed to talk about without fear of being called racist. These crimes are acts of hate in the true sense. Why? These acts of violence are directed at those who are not black, not from that neighborhood, or simply because the victim exist in the same unfortunate moment as the violent assailant(s). Yes, the attacks often involve a mob of attackers.

The shooting in Woodstock GA was clearly a religious sex addict and patron who freaked out due to his own inner conflict and shot up this brothel aka 'massage parlor', including 3 of the 8 victims who were non-Asian. Wow, something went awry at a massage parlor? There's a reason for the old expression "I wouldn't be caught dead...'.

An Asian woman in ATL posted a remark on LinkedIn  that she knows life can be shortened because she's Asian and living in Atlanta. Of course, everyone jumped in to 'support' her / virtue signal, and I wanted to say, "Ma'am, unless you start a new sideline, or take a walk through Buckhead where all the animals roam around shooting each other and stealing cars, I think you'll be just fine."

I don't recall ever seeing any massage parlor workers with LinkedIn profiles". Imagine the endorsements from all the CEOs for her stellar hand jobs.

No doubt shootings are tragic, but the explanation is a far cry from being an Asian hate crime. How irresponsible to spread such a notion, and prior to investigation, as is the norm.

And of course, now this and other incidents have become an argument for censoring any criticism of China. As if that wasn't already being pushed when anyone referred to COVID as a 'Chinese virus'.

The Colorado shooter turns out to be a Syrian-born Muslim who arrived via Obama's asylum program, posts about Islam on FB, and was already on the FBI watch list, as usual. I think the FBI watch list must be like subscribing to a YouTube channel. It gives the Feds some entertainment and notifies them when there's new content. Clean up on aisle nine. That's news in general - the media shows up to declare the official narrative, and the investigation is swept under the rug until after social media has been plastered with plenty of 'ratings' by the mob of judges who all turn into Simon Cowell and bask in the spotlight of validation, as cities are burned to the ground. Then we learn it was all for naught, but at least the facts didn't interfere with the revelry. We need ratings, and there's nothing more compelling than train wrecks, gladiatorial combat and porn.

But his actions are dismissed as a result of his 'mental illness' as usual - nothing to do with his background - and here come the calls for gun control, with no pause to consider the obvious context we've seen over and over again.

In reversing all things Trump, the new administration opened up the U.S. to entry from all the countries who were named security threats. And now, we have a muslim shooting, from where? Syria, the same place where Biden made an airstrike only a few weeks ago to be sure and let everyone know we're still around. The place everyone has criticized Trump for withdrawing.

Further, the media takes no responsibility for sensationalizing shootings which always result in copy cats. And here comes Obama, stating that mass shootings are motivated by racism

It just seems awfully coincidental that so many things unfurl like a leftist to-do list on a scroll following the 'election'. Again, this is just a rewarming of 2008.

And this just in only 2 days later:

I'm astonished the URL contains 'black-male' - apparently this site is known for sensationalism and gossip. Local Atlanta news shows his photo but national news does not and doesn't mention his race, and the Atlanta Police only cites him as 'male'.

https://meaww.com/rico-marley-atlanta-publix-grocery-store-5-guns-body-armour-entered-black-male

And, what the fuck is going on in Virginia Beach?

Okay, this isn't getting much attention. Why? Because they're black. Let's not detract from all the revelry on social media about stopping the Asian hater in Atlanta (Holy hand jobs, Jack Man!) , and definitely let's not think about the Syrian in Colorado.

We have DeWayne Craddock, black guy, who killed 12 people:

Then, we have CNN focusing on the officer who had his camera turned off (and I'll bet that bastard wasn't wearing his mask either) while shooting a black shooter, so, they're happy to focus on race for that one, but for the the 'mass shooting', they name three 'men' but don't identify race. Wait for it...

Virginia State Police have not released the identity of the officer who fired the shot that killed Donovan Lynch, a 25-year-old Black man.

We have...I cannot pronounce 2/3rds of the names, but they're young males and...hmmm, what color, do you suppose, are these guys?

"Three people have been charged in connection with the shooting, police announced Saturday: Ahmon Jahree Adams, 22, of Chesapeake, Virginia; Nyquez Tyron Baker, 18, of Virginia Beach; and Devon Maurice Dorsey Jr., 20, of Virginia Beach."

Search Virginia Beach shooting on YouTube and you get all kinds of incidents going back into time. Must be a great place.

YouTube Is Testing Automatic Product Detection In Videos (theverge.com)7

An anonymous reader quotes a report from The Verge:YouTube is always running experiments. One of its latest: testing an automated list of products detected in videos uploaded to the site. As of March 22nd this year, that test is being expanded to "people watching videos in the US," according to YouTube. In one of its blogs, a YouTube representative gave a little more detail about how this particular feature will be deployed: "We are experimenting with a new feature that displays a list of products detected in some videos, as well as related products. The feature will appear in between the recommended videos, to viewers scrolling below the video player. The goal is to help people explore more videos and information about those products on YouTube.

Soldiers replaced by robots

British Army To Be Reduced By About 10,000 Soldiers As Part of Move Towards Robots, Drones, and Cyber Warfare (bbc.com)58

An anonymous reader quotes a report from the BBC:The size of the Army is to be reduced to 72,500 soldiers by 2025 as part of a move towards drones and cyber warfare. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said "increased deployability and technological advantage" meant greater effect could be delivered by fewer people. He set out plans for new capabilities such as electronic warfare and drones in a command paper in the Commons. Labour has warned that "size matters" when it comes to defence.

Announcing a major overhaul of the armed forces, Mr Wallace said it marked a shift from "mass mobilization to information age speed," insisting they must be able to "seek out and understand" new threats to the country's security. A cut to the size of the Army had been anticipated -- with a reduction of 10,000 widely trailed. What Defence Secretary Ben Wallace announced was a cut to the target for the number of fully trained people in the Army, from 82,040 today to 72,500 in 2025. The changes set out in the paper -- titled Defence in a Competitive Age -- include 3 billion pounds for new vehicles, long-range rocket systems, drones, electronic warfare and cyber capabilities.
The UK is putting more resources into cyber warfare via the creation of the National Cyber Force based in the North West of England. It's also putting more resources ($6.6 billion for research and development) into space that may function similarly to the U.S. Space Force.

As predicted, here comes the the feminism firehose to accompany Kamala Harris

Here it comes, as previously predicted in my January and November posts - so, now it turns out the police are targeting women to the point there must be another protest?:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/14/uk/sarah-everard-vigil-police-response-gbr-intl/index.html

Just in time for the Breonna Taylor verdict and subsequent armed protest, tandem to the George Floyd trial in progress. Just imagine, if Breonna Taylor's verdict resulted in armed protests, how will the Floyd result end up if it doesn't meet the demands of the worldwide protests that cost 2B in damage? The media sets the perception when the break the story, the mob reacts to the implication, then the investigation and trial shows the reality, which so far is consistently that mob justice wins, and continues to dominate the narrative and history in the minds of the public.

Once Joe makes his inevitable exit within the next year at the latest, we'll be worshiping women and pushing rights issues in line with the identity politics agenda that goes with Kamala Harris, woman of color and first female President.

Had Trump carried out the usual second term, I'm sure the Dems would have rolled out their high-visibility candidates for a stronger draw - Oprah,  (maybe Tom Hanks as VP), Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Obama.

But now they find themselves limping to 2024 with Weekend at Bernie's Joe and harpy extraordinaire, Kamala. So, what with the now fractured GOP do to compete?

Brain predicts stock changes

Activity In Brain's Risk Circuits Can Forecast Changes In Stock Prices (scitechdaily.com)36

According to a new study published today in JNeurosci, it may now be possible to forecast changes in stock prices by examining brain activity in regions associated with anxiety and risk-avoidance. "Scientists could accurately forecast market price changes based on the average brain activity among a group but failed when using only prior stock trends or people's investment choices," reports SciTechDaily. From the report:Participants examined real stock price trends from 2015 as they decided if they wanted to buy or sell the displayed stocks. During the task, the researchers used fMRI to measure activity in the nucleus accumbens and anterior insula, areas involved in seeking reward and avoiding risk, respectively. Using the group's average brain activity in these regions, the researchers could forecast how a stock would behave. Increased nucleus accumbens activity forecast when a stock's price would increase the next day, while increased anterior insula activity forecast when it would flip or change direction. Prior stock market trends and the participants' own investing choices could not forecast stock price dynamics.

Dio at age 65 with Black Sabbath performing 'Children of the Sea'

Black Sabbath focused on heavy metal with the notion that horror music could be as popular as horror movies. After writing this entry, I began digging into Ritchie Blackmore's history and learned how he played with 'Screaming Lord Such' who pre-dated Sabbath and Alice Cooper with horror-themed performances. Black Sabbath's 'Jack the Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots' is perhaps at least a nod to Lord Such, who's performance of 'Jack the Ripper' is priceless, looking like Lon Chaney in London after Midnight.

I've always listened to Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio's solo albums, but I never really went beyond Dio's first solo album, Holy Diver, apart from a few singles, along with noting Vivian Campbell's absolutely vicious playing at 19 years old.

In 1980, Dio joined Black Sabbath to make a hugely successful album called 'Heaven and Hell'.

I'm not interested in debating over whether Heaven and Hell was truly Black Sabbath or should have been another band. He's not Ozzy, he's Ronnie.

With a strict Catholic upbringing and being unusually short at 5'4", Ronnie James Dio had enough bugs up his ass plus the raw talent to become the perfect artist to scare the absolute shit out of everyone.

In 2009, at the age of 65, Dio rejoined Sabbath including guitarist and founder, Tony Iommi, drummer Vinny Appice and bass guitarist, Geezer Butler for a live performance of Heaven and Hell. The show was recorded a year before he died of stomach cancer.

From this concert, I found 'Children of the Sea' on YouTube, and became somewhat obsessed.

What strikes me is how his voice, performance and physicality ages like a fine wine, perfectly suited for this doom and horror genre. Dio is so theatrical anyway, but those idiosyncratic gestures that might have seemed somewhat goofy in his prime just lend to his character, like he's an old wizard belting out an incantation. Cast in dramatic lighting, wind and fog, Dio delivers the cryptic imagery with such conviction, it compels the imagination.

The ensemble chemistry is complete with Iommi's stoic presence as he walks forward to solo, and Vinny's ultimate thunderous and explosive drum flair. It's such a dramatic song, and if you pay attention and isolate the bassline and follow the great variety in rhythm and structure, it's truly an epic song, performed with such feeling from all.

This magnificent performance by Ronnie James Dio at the end of his life appeals to me in the same way as when Christopher Lee made his late, great return to film in his early 80s as the evil wizard, Saruman in Lord of the Rings, and as Sith lord, Count Dooku in the new installments of Star Wars.

Lee died at the age of 93 in 2015. I never cared for Hammer Film's version of Dracula which struck me as disgusting and ridiculous compared to the classic Bela Lugosi version, but upon seeing Lee late in life in these roles, his age, dramatic performance and particularly his voice made for an excellent casting choice. I'd consider taking another look at the Dracula films just to see his performance through another perspective. The Children of the Sea live video made me dig back into Dio's career as well and appreciate him as a singer, songwriter and performer. Ironically, the late 50s and 60s horror films very much influenced the genre, perhaps starting with Screaming Lord Such, that infused Black Sabbath, Ritchie Blackmore, Alice Cooper, Kiss and others.

Going through Dio's time with Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath and as a solo artist, I found two repeating themes: rainbows and the death of the sun - of course, theoretically, a massive collapsing star creates a black hole - an ultimate symbol of both doom and mystery, often thought to be associated with time travel. It's interesting to consider how those themes were shared across bands, including songs like Sabbath's 'Hole in the Sky' or beyond to other bands like Pink Floyd's iconic prism.

Even if you're not a fan of metal or find the music disturbing or worry that it's somehow sacrilegious, the singing and performance is incredibly intense. Try to think of it as a horror musical, like Dracula 2010

Here's my Dio playlist which begins with Children of the Sea.

After some further reading, I suspect much of Dio's writing was inspired by his scorn for Ritchie Blackmore, and I can see how his time with Rainbow influenced his sound as a solo artist.

Here are interviews with band members about the occult - overall, the conclusion is that everyone rebelled against organized religion, but were not seeking out devil worship...but dabbled.

China's national digital currency

China Charges Ahead With a National Digital Currency (nytimes.com)36

The electronic Chinese yuan is now being tested in cities such as Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing. No other major power is as far along with a homegrown digital currency. From a report:Annabelle Huang recently won a government lottery to try China's latest economics experiment: a national digital currency. After joining the lottery through the social media app WeChat, Ms. Huang, 28, a business strategist in Shenzhen, received a digital envelope with 200 electronic Chinese yuan, or eCNY, worth around $30. To spend it, she went to a convenience store near her office and picked out some nuts and yogurt. Then she pulled up a QR code for the digital currency from inside her bank app, which the store scanned for payment. "The journey of how you pay, it's very similar" to that of other Chinese payments apps, Ms. Huang said of the eCNY experience, though she added that it wasn't quite as smooth.

China has charged ahead with a bold effort to remake the way that government-backed money works, rolling out its own digital currency with different qualities than cash or digital deposits. The country's central bank, which began testing eCNY last year in four cities, recently expanded those trials to bigger cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, according to government presentations. The effort is one of several by central banks around the world to try new forms of digital money that can move faster and give even the most disadvantaged people access to online financial tools. Many countries have taken action as cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, which has recently soared in value, have become more popular. But while Bitcoin was designed to be decentralized so that no company or government could control it, digital currencies created by central banks give governments more of a financial grip.

Offices of the future

Writing sample submission for a Honeywell content writer role - given the title, I researched and compiled key points, then composed.

Transformation in the modern workplace:

How technology is revolutionizing health, safety and productivity for tomorrow’s offices

As businesses across the globe anticipate employees returning to offices, emerging technologies enable corporate leaders to reimagine the workplace as an experiential destination.

Smart offices promise to promote employee health, security and comfort by continually synthesizing and responding to the needs of their inhabitants, ushering in a new era of personalized flexibility that will draw and retain talent, drive engagement, and boost performance.

Covid-19 impact on enterprise, employees & environment

The pandemic reshaped industrial and digital landscapes by sorting and establishing essential and non-essential businesses and pushing traffic online while reducing travel and cutting fuel consumption, cost and emissions.

Although the shift to remote work affords benefits, many employees suffer from inadequate facilities, distractions and a sense of disconnect. Working parents, particularly women, must juggle attendance to frequent zoom calls and children who are out of school. Mental health, productivity and innovation have taken a hit, and companies realize their employees need accommodations in space and flexibility.

To call for a return to the office, companies must instill confidence in both safety and comfort by prioritizing their investment in the employee journey.

Reimagining return to work through emerging tech

Over the past twenty-five years, “smart” buildings have evolved to combine IOT sensors, edge computing, computer vision, GPS, voice and other inputs to gather and securely process local data in real-time. AI and machine learning then contextualize data to govern and optimize conditions and predict and automate operational flow and maintenance. For remote workers, 5G and emerging devices promise a future of telepresence and collaboration through augmented, virtual and mixed reality and guidance from digital assistants.

Safety and health

A recent Honeywell survey found that sixty-eight percent of workers feel unsafe in their workplace, and a quarter of remote workers would rather find another job than return to a facility that does not adhere to safety guidelines.

Smart systems will afford security and cognizance through health screening and contact tracing of personnel upon entry, mask detection, measurement of crowd density and social distancing.

UV sterilization and disinfectant-ready devices and equipment allow for continual cleaning of scanners, computers and printers.

Companies seeking to upgrade existing, older structures will benefit most from predictive analytics, gaining insights for prioritizing maintenance to ensure safety. Monitoring and automation prevent accidents and mechanical failures of power and lights, HVAC, temperature, ventilation and air purification, security, fire, water and waste systems.

Communications through digital signage, wireless AV and room-based systems will offer employees critical awareness and ease of use.

Employee experience

PWC found that 87% of employees seek offices for problem solving with coworkers and for learning.

Speaking at a recent round table discussion hosted by a leading workplace futurist think tank, Mark Needham of Cisco said ‘we need to treat the office as a consumer product and earn the loyalty of employees to keep them returning time and time again’.

The effort of travel to work should afford the reward of superior facility. Modern offices will offer a range of private, open and multipurpose rooms, featuring ample natural light, adjustable, modular furniture for sitting or standing, along with dining and exercise facilities to promote wellness. New audio technologies will eliminate noise distractions and enhance communication.

Employees will enjoy frictionless immersion upon arrival, using personalized workspace settings to enter via touchless access, navigate to their destinations, connect devices without setup, and save their ideal ergonomic and room temperature preferences.

Through scheduling and personalization, a facility with 1,000 desk capacity can support 2,500 workers who decide when to reserve space based on their needs, thereby driving higher morale, engagement and performance.

Quality of life & environment

Amazon’s HQ2 ‘indoor-outdoor building’ is slated for completion in 2025, and sets a very high bar for employee and environmental wellbeing. Companies who adapt to ‘the new normal’ will position themselves to offer an unprecedented standard of sustainable, professional lifestyle while making an ultimate statement of their brand’s core values.

Experts project that smart offices will cut 30% of urban emissions by 2050. A connected ecosystem may ultimately encompass personal devices, cars, homes, and buildings to comprise smart cities, like Toyota’s ‘Woven City’, currently under development in Japan. Mass adoption of smart systems will continue to lower the cost of technology, thereby increasing ubiquity and environmental benefit.
