Researchers have found that an injection of protein FGF1 stops weight induced diabetes in mice,
with no apparent side effects. However, the cure only lasts 2 days at a
time. Future research and human trials are needed to better understand
and create a working drug. From the story: "The team found that
sustained treatment with the protein doesn't merely keep blood sugar
under control, but also reverses insulin insensitivity, the underlying
physiological cause of diabetes. Equally exciting, the newly developed
treatment doesn't result in side effects common to most current diabetes
treatments."
